Qualifications and credentials

Professional background

Ian worked in clinical cardiology from 2010 to 2025, including work at a Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist level.

He independently performed and reported a range of cardiovascular investigations, including ECG and ambulatory heart-rhythm monitoring, exercise stress testing and transthoracic echocardiography. His work also included blood-pressure measurement and ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring, haemodynamic monitoring during cardiac catheterisation procedures, and routine pacemaker and cardiac-device follow-up.

Alongside clinical work, Ian taught and assessed cardiac physiology students, trainees and cardiology medical registrars. His research and audit work included the peer-reviewed publication What’s the risk? Assessment of patients with stable chest pain.

Ian is a Cardiac Physiologist, not a medical doctor, and is not currently working in clinical practice. Active Heart Health provides general health education and consumer health-technology information. It does not provide personalised medical advice or healthcare services.
